A little about Mark Kitts...

Before tuning professional in 2008 by qualifying for the Canadian Tour (PGA Tour Canada), I was a hockey player that played in the Western Hockey League. My hockey career ended in 2004, but by that time I had started to excel in golf. From 2005 to 2008 I ended up winning 16 times as an amateur and after turning professional have won 9 events.

From 2011-2013 I was the assistant professional at Tobiano Golf Course in Kamloops, B.C.. It was a great experience and I enjoyed working at the number one public course in B.C..

Up until joining Shadow Ridge Golf Club I spent 4 seasons with Quilchena Golf & Country Club, where I was the first associate professional. I spent most of my time running events and teaching at the club, while I still keeping my game sharp buy playing in the odd tournament.

PGA of BC Professional Spotlight - Mark Kitts
April 14, 2021

Why did you become a PGA of Canada Professional?
Coming from the Canadian Tour, now called the PGA Tour Canada, I wanted to continue a career in the golf industry.

What is the most rewarding part about being a member of the PGA of BC?
Seeing people enjoy the game of golf and hearing golfers' stories.

At which golf facility did you first begin working within the industry, and who was the PGA Professional?
I started with Cleveland Golf Srixon Canada under PGA of BC Professional Dan Dodman. But I would say my true first facility was Quilchena Golf & Country Club, where Victor Vianzon was my Head Professional.

Who has influenced your career the most, and how?
Matt Palsenbarg ("Keep learning") and James Presnail ("There is more than one way to get the job done.")

What career path led you to where you are today?
Didn't make it as a professional hockey player and went to college after. Made it on the college golf team and fell in love with the game again.

Which significant accomplishments are you most proud of?
Playing multiple seasons on the Canadian Tour and surviving financially.

If you had to share one piece of advice with a new member of our Association, what would it be?
Learn as much as you can. Never stop educating yourself.

What is your most cherished golf memory?
Winning the Pro-Assistant with James Presnail in a playoff.

What is your favourite golf course in British Columbia, and why?
Tobiano - Beautiful location and course conditions

What is a common misconception that golfers make about what your job entails?
All I do is play golf.
