PGA of BC Member Spotlight -- March 31, 2021
Dale Moore

Why did you become a PGA of Canada Professional?
I thought being a Golf Professional would be a rewarding career change, which it has.

What is the most rewarding part about being a member of the PGA of BC?
The lifestyle, meeting interesting people, and being in an environment where people are generally in pleasant moods

At which golf facility did you first begin working within the industry, and who was the PGA Professional?
Radium Resort Pete Smith and Bob Tutt.

Who has influenced your career the most, and how?
That's a hard one to measure. I've been fortunate to have mentors both in and away from golf. Ownership at the golf courses that I've worked at comes to mind first. Within the golf industry, the instilment of business models and how they pertain to financial success has influenced my successes in a management role. A couple of close friends and successful businessmen have also assisted in giving me direction, in both business practices and personal decision making.

What career path led you to where you are today?
A 12-year career in construction and a business owner made me think it was time for a career change in 1990. I loved golf, liked coaching, and knew the importance of business success. I knew I wasn't going to make a living off of playing golf, so I focused on retail and teaching. Those two things have served me well over my career.

Which significant accomplishments are you most proud of?
Probably taking a little mom-and-pop golf course in Windermere Valley and growing retail from $8000 per season to an average of 250k per season, building" Shot Shapers" Golf Academy at Windermere, and meeting former junior golfers that I taught, now in Adulthood

If you had to share one piece of advice with a new member of our Association, what would it be?
We all love golf. Try to imagine the big picture. There are many paths to success.

What is your most cherished golf memory?
Breaking par for the first time in a pro tournament.Nomination for Head Professional of the Year 2017 from my peers.

What is your favorite golf course in British Columbia, and why?
Grey Wolf. Views on every hole, shot value, and course conditioning.

What is a common misconception that golfers make about what your job entails?
"It must be great to play golf every day..."
