FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PGA of British Columbia crowns three victors at Vernon Golf & Country Club for their Assistants’, Seniors, and Women’s Championships
Vernon, B.C. – (June 5, 2012) – The weather cooperated for the last two days at Vernon Golf & Country Club, three Champions were victorious in winning their respective Championships. Brad Clapp from Chilliwack Golf & Country Club played an astonishing two rounds of golf at 17 under par (63-64 = 127). Setting the competitive course record (63) on day 1, Clapp followed up his brilliant performance with a great round of 64 on day two taking the FlightScope/Cobra PUMA Golf PGA of BC Assistants’ Championship by nine strokes over last year’s champion Bryn Parry of Seymour Creek Golf Centre (68-68 = 136 8-under par). Clapp went bogey free over the 36 hole competition to secure his first Assistants’ title and took home $3,000 of the $16,500 Championship Purse.
Murray Poje (69-70 = 139) of Tssawwasen Springs Golf Resort successfully defended his Seniors’ Championship Title Presented by Kwikfit4u. Poje trailed local Professional Keith Vandenbrink from Hillview Golf Course (66-74 = 140) by three strokes heading into the final round. With steady play over the two days, Poje edged out Vandenbrink by one shot to defend his title and take home $1,750 for the Championship title. Alan Kristmanson of Whistler Golf Club recorded a hole in one on the fifth hole on day two of the tournament, his second of his career. Norm Jarvis of Eaglequest Coyote Creek (72-73 = 145) won the Super Seniors’ title for players over the age of 60, and also tied for third in the overall Seniors’ Championship netting him a total of $1,125.
Two consistent rounds gave Ashley Zibrik (neé Hogg) from Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club (74-78 = 152) the PGA of BC Women’s Championship title. Zibrik’s two round score bested Tara Roden (Gallagher’s Canyon Golf & CC) and Sheilla Cowan (Eaglequest Coquitlam) by eleven strokes. Zibrik earned $500 for her first Championship title.
The three Championships’ were held with threatening weather looming both days, but overall the condition of Vernon Golf & Country Club was pristine.
