Chase, B.C. (July 11, 2012) - The team of Kevin Maxwell and Matt Matheson of Olympic View Golf Club edged out Kelowna Golf & Country Club on the third playoff hole to capture the 2012 G&G Golf Company / Fletcher Leisure Group PGA of BC Pro-Assistant Championship.

The format of the event sees teams of two compete in two days of best ball and scramble formats. After an exciting and eventful 36-holes at the beautiful Talking Rock Golf Course, the tournament saw Maxwell and Matheson (68-61-129) tied with Kelowna Golf & Country Club's Rob Anderson and Jamie Stevens (65-64-129) atop the leaderboard. The two teams headed back to the 18th tee for a sudden death playoff in a Scotch-Alternate Shot format.

After both teams made par through their first two attempts, Kelowna found themselves in trouble on the third playoff hole after two errant tee shots didn't allow them to scramble for par. Maxwell blasted a third-straight 310 yard drive down the middle of the fairway, leaving Matheson an easy pitch to the green. Two putts later, the team was crowned champions.

"We complimented each other very well out there and made key putts when we needed them" said Maxwell, who was celebrating the victory on his 30th birthday.

"Kevin made a 35-foot bomb on our last hole today and we hoped it was enough to be in contention" Matheson added. The pair combined for ten birdies and an eagle en route to a closing scramble round of 61 and the first place cheque of $2,250.

Kelowna found themselves with the first round lead after Anderson and Stevens opened with an impressive bogey-free 65, which featured five birdies and an eagle on the par 5 third. The timing of the golf on Monday couldn't have been better as shortly following completion of play, extreme thunder and lightning shut down power in the Shuswap Lakes area for hours after a tremendous bolt struck the Quaaout Lodge Clubhouse just as the event's evening ceremonies were about to commence.

Round one created more electricity when Jeff Buder, Head Professional at Point Grey Golf & Country Club recorded a Hole-in-One on the 202 Yard Par 3 eighth after holing a 5-iron. Incredibly, this was Buder's third ace of the year in only his thirteen round of golf. In accordance with tradition, the classy Buder generously bought a round of beverages for all players and sponsors following play.

The popular event was sponsored by G&G Golf Company and Fletcher Leisure Group and see PGA of BC facilities represented by their Head, Head Teaching or Executive Professional joined by one of their Assistants. Teams from as far away as Fernie and Fort Saint John enjoyed incredible weather, scenery and hospitality at Talking Rock under the leadership of Head Professional Adam Blair. The 2013 event is sure to be another success as the annual competition will be hosted by Gallagher's Canyon Golf & Country Club in Kelowna.
