TYE BABKIRK 2013 JUNIOR GOLF LEADER WINNER

Summerland Golf & Country Club Head Professional Tye Babkirk was recently named the PGA of BC Junior Golf Leader of 2013. Under Babkirk’s leadership, his club held a very successful 2013 Jack McLaughlin PGA of BC Pro-Junior Championship, which also included an introductory barbecue and afternoon on the lake.

ROBERT RATCLIFFE THREE-TIME COACH OF THE YEAR

For the third straight year, Crown Isle's Robert Ratcliffe was named PGA of BC Coach of the Year. Ratcliffe, who was unable to attend the October Awards Reception because he was in Houston, Texas for Golf Canada duties, did send a note of thanks that was read at the reception held at the River Rock Casino. What makes Ratcliffe such an honoured golf coach? Well, let's let one of his fellow coaches, Todd Deters, tell you why:

STRONG BC CONTINGENT AT CPC IN FLORIDA

The PGA of BC will be ably represented by a strong team of 12 Head Professionals at the Titleist Foot Joy PGA Club Professional Championship of Canada in Port St. Lucie, Florida, starting on Nov. 17. The Team BC Inter-Zone squad is led by Olympic View Golf Club's Kevin Maxwell (pictured), Qualicum Beach Memorial Golf Club's Ross Mantell, Point Grey Golf & Country Club's Jeff Buder and Black Mountain Golf Club's Russ Latimer. With first and second round tee times now released, the BC squad will go out in four of the marquee morning groups on Nov. 18.

ALAN PALMER 2013 MEMBER OF THE YEAR

An unswerving dedication to junior golf and preserving the memory and legacy of Jack McLaughlin has earned Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club’s Alan Palmer the prestigious title of 2013 PGA of BC Member of the Year. Palmer led the team of Alex Francois, Diego San Pedro and Josh Zhang to the 2013 Jack McLaughlin Memorial PGA of BC Pro-Junior Presented By PING Golf at the Summerland Golf & Country Club in July. Palmer said the win has a lot of significance because of Jack McLaughlin’s ties to Shaughnessy.

BRENT MULLIN NAMED 2013 PGA OF BC SALES REPRESENTATIVE OF THE YEAR

Brent Mullin of the Mullin Agency was recently named 2013 PGA of BC Sales Representative of the Year for his work with Bushnell Golf products. With 21 years as a Golf Professional, including the last 14 as a Class A PGA of Canada member, Mullin has previously won the provincial sales honour in 2009 and was a regional finalist for the North and Kootenays in 2011.

MATT PALSENBARG WINS $1,000 JIM GIBSON SCHOLARSHIP

Matt Palsenbarg, who teaches at the Northview Golf Academy in Surrey is the 2013 winner of the $1,000 Jim Gibson Scholarship. Palsenbarg was recognized for his volunteerism and dedication to furthering his education to benefit others.The $1,000 award, which honours the late Jim Gibson, a renowned volunteer in B.C. golf, is given annually to a PGA of BC member who gives back to the game.

CHILLIWACK GOLF CLUB NAMED 2013 PGA OF BC FACILITY OF THE YEAR

The Chilliwack Golf Club was recently named the PGA of BC's 2013 Facility of the Year. Led by general manager Bryan Ewart, golf operations manager Jared Rempel and LPGA Teaching Professional Jennifer Greggain, the facility is also home to 2012 PGA of BC Player of the Year Brad Clapp. The facility is notable not only for its impeccable course conditions, but for hosting a variety of major local tournaments and the recent opening of their new Teaching Academy facility, called The Garage.
