2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

George Pinches; Director, Global Golf Advisors

TOPIC: "How to Succeed in the Wonderful World of Clubs"

This interactive session will cover three topics directly related to the unique, challenging and rewarding career we share. The first part is called “How to get, keep and leave a club industry job." It examines the Executive Search process from both the employer and candidate perspectives. Have you ever thought, “if only I could do it all over again”? The session will include tools, tips and tactics for finding great people, getting, keeping and leaving a club.

The second part concerns Ethics. Every organization has a sound Code of Ethics, and yet, we sometimes hear of events that are counter to the Code. Pinches will take the lead by delving into the crux of the matter by asking some hard questions and, by consensus, providing guidance on professional ethics and how you may best navigate tricky situations.

The third part concerns governance, a critical success factor for all club stakeholders including the management team. As both a GM and an Executive Search Consultant, Pinches has observed the significant, sudden and direct impact of inept governance on clubs and club executives. This session presents the most up-to-date information, emerging trends, strategies, tools and templates in the critical area of Club Governance.

BIO: Pinches was a private club GM/COO for 33 years. He managed five clubs in three Canadian provinces- including Hamilton Golf & CC, Point Grey Golf & CC, Royal Mayfair Golf Club and The Royal Glenora Club. He was also involved with both the Canadian Society of Club Managers (CSCM) and the Club Managers Association of America (CMAA). Pinches served as President of two branches, National President and as a session leader and guest speaker at branch, national and international industry events. He received the SCOREGolf Manager of the Year Award in 2007.

Pinches studies governance in private clubs and considers the ability to work with boards and committees a key success factor in clubs. He sees governance in private clubs as a collaborative process that can be productive for all concerned. His understanding of private clubs and club governance make his expertise vital for Golf Professionals. Pinches previously taught in the Golf Management Program at Grant McEwen University in Edmonton and has taught sections of the Business Management Institute (BMI) courses, a certification requirement for CMAA.

DAY 2 SPEAKERS:

8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Glen Daman; Owner, 10th Degree Consulting Inc.

TOPIC: "Leadership Tips to Crush Your Competition"

BIO:

Glen Daman is a successful and respected businessman based in Winnipeg with more than 29 years of experience in the automotive industry. He is former president of the Dilawri Automotive group, awarded one of Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies seven years in a row. Currently Glen is Owner of 10th Degree Consulting Inc., mentoring, training and speaking to a variety of audiences and businesses across North America.

Based on his critically acclaimed book, Master Your Life to the 10th Degree, Glen has developed the 10th Degree Life method over more than a decade of speaking to sales associates, business leaders and professional and amateur athletes in both Canada and the United States. In addition to speaking to audiences and running his company, Glen has mentored and guided many business leaders and professional athletes as both a business and life coach.

12:15 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Will Robins, PGA; CEO, Robins Golf Logistix (RGX)

TOPIC:  "Driving Value Through the Power of Coaching"

Transform your course, your players and your teaching business by understanding the value that coaching unlocks in all three of these areas. During Robins' presentation, you will learn:

  • How to triple member spend
  • How to reduce member attrition to less than 1%
  • How to guarantee lower scores and more enjoyment for your members while doubling your hourly income

BIO:

A native of the United Kingdom, Robins came to the United States to play college golf in Monterey, Calif., after graduation with his BBA in Marketing and Management from Northwood University in Florida in 2000. He played on the mini tours around America before sustaining injuries in the 2004 Thailand Tsunami while on his honeymoon with his wife, Amanda. Theses injuries led Robins to coach the game of golf and he quickly realized that most of his students came to him not enjoying the game and overthinking to the point of frustration. Robins took his playing skills and life-changing experience to create an instructional program that would guarantee players results and inspire them to love the game of golf again.

Robins owns and operates WRGolf Coaching based in Sacramento County, Calif., and is the CEO of Robins Golf Logistix (RGX), a consulting company that mentors instructors on coaching programs. Through RGX, Robins trains over 80 coaches worldwide on how to implement programs that accelerate and guarantee results for their students while doubling their teaching / coaching revenue. Robins also developed The Scoring Method, a teaching system that is providing players with a new perspective on the game and allowing them to unlock their scoring potential. His work has earned accolades, including being named to Golf Digest's Best Young Teachers in America list.
