Community Engagement Program

What is the Community Engagement Program?

The Community Engagement Program (CEP) is an annual Points Race that recognizes PGA of BC golf professionals who go beyond the course, through volunteering, fundraising, charitable efforts, and promoting the game across British Columbia. The program launched in 2024 and runs each calendar year.

The 2026 season is now live! Top 10 finishers share a $5,000 season purse, with $1,000 going to the champion.

Launching in 2024, the PGA of BC's Community Engagement Program aims to recognize golf professionals across British Columbia who prioritize community involvement, public volunteerism, and other charitable efforts. This initiative rewards active involvement in key community events like the ALS Golfathon, Canucks Junior Golf Month, and Women's Golf Month, with points awarded for promoting, participating in, and fundraising for these and other community initiatives. The program also values broader community involvement, such as volunteer work, engagement in other sports, and various fundraising activities, recognizing the diverse contributions of golf professionals beyond the course.

Crucially, the program places a strong emphasis on the use of social media as a powerful tool for professionals to positively promote the PGA of BC, including educational events and tournaments. This strategy aims to increase the association's visibility and accessibility, making it more public-facing and enhancing reputation and brand growth.

Separate from the CEP, but related in its theme, is the PGA of BC’s Community Leadership Bursary.  While this award may sometimes go to the Points Race Champion, the Community Leadership Bursary targets individuals who have created programs and initiatives to which the bursary’s funds could be reinvested into.

How to earn points

Points are earned across the season for the ways members grow the game and give back. Every contribution counts toward the race.

Key events that earn points

Golf-a-thon for ALS
A province-wide charity marathon round raising funds and awareness for ALS. Participation, fundraising, and social media promotion all earn points.

Canucks Junior Golf Month
Grow the game by introducing juniors to golf at facilities across BC. Points are earned per camp you run or participate in.

Women's Golf Celebration
Welcome and champion women in the game throughout the season. Points are earned per event you attend or organize.

Teach-a-thon for CMHA
Member-led teaching events supporting mental health awareness in the community. One of the highest single-event point values in the program.

PGA of BC Awards Show
The PGA of British Columbia Awards are presented each fall. These honours recognize the individuals and golf facilities that are leaders in our Association, and acknowledging and honouring them helps elevate the profile of every PGA of BC member in the eyes of the golfing public.

Community Leadership Bursary

Separate from the CEP Points Race but related in spirit, the Community Leadership Bursary funds professionals who have created programs and initiatives — reinvesting the award directly back into their community work. The bursary may go to the Points Race champion, but targets individuals whose work can be directly funded by the award.
