Canucks Junior Golf Week grows the game among BC youth
August 22, 2025
Richmond, BC (PGA of BC) - The PGA of BC and the Vancouver Canucks are thrilled to share that nearly 700 youth across BC participated in the 2025 Canucks Junior Golf Week initiative.
Canucks Junior Golf Week took place in dozens of communities throughout BC, where children effectively learned the game of golf through certified PGA of BC-instructed, single-day camps. The skills developed through golf complement those of other sports, including hockey, while participating in golf also imparts important life skills such as honesty, sportsmanship, responsibility, integrity and respect. Participants learn the benefits of staying active while exploring the game of golf, all the while meeting new friends and having fun. Canucks Junior Golf Week camps are practical for young golfers of all experience levels, including those who have previously never picked up a club. The initiative has introduced nearly 7,000 British Columbia youth to the sport since launching in 2014.
PGA of BC professionals are the engines that drive Canucks Junior Golf Week, taking time out of their busy schedules to host camps and introduce aspiring juniors to the sport. The Association extends our gratitude and appreciation to every professional and facility that hosted camps this year.
Mayfair Lakes Golf & Country Club has been a longtime supporter of the initiative. Professional Keri Moffat expressed her passion for driving the sport in an inclusive and welcoming direction.
"Programs like this open the door for families who may never have stepped onto a golf course otherwise. They give PGA of BC professionals a chance to connect with their communities in an authentic way, not just as coaches, but as ambassadors for the sport. It’s an opportunity to show that golf can be inclusive, approachable, and a place where everyone belongs. Those relationships often turn into lifelong connections with the game and the club," said Moffat.
"I hope these initiatives continue to grow the game in a way that reflects the diversity of our communities. By creating positive first experiences, we’re not just teaching swings, we’re building a future generation of golfers who see the sport as fun and welcoming. That’s how you create sustainable growth for the game in BC and Canada."
Bootleg Gap Golf Head Professional Trevor Simkins highlighted the rewarding experience of introducing juniors to the game for the first time.
"We find that most of our Canucks camp juniors are brand new to the game, so I keep things simple, engaging, and focused on building confidence," said Simkins. "Our hope is that Canucks Junior Golf Week introduces more kids to the game of golf in a positive way, helping them get started on the right foot while also showing families that many local facilities are welcoming and accessible for junior golfers."
This important initiative would not be possible without the incredible support from our partner, the Vancouver Canucks. Canucks mascot Fin joined a camp at Mayfair Lakes Golf & Country Club where he showed off his swing and interacted with the participants. The Association thanks the Canucks for their partnership and commitment to junior golf in BC.
