Carson Kallis takes thrilling one-shot victory at the 2026 Play Golf BC Assistants' Championship

Carson Kallis takes thrilling one-shot victory at the 2026 Play Golf BC Assistants' Championship

June 11, 2026

Kamloops, BC (PGA of BC) - Carson Kallis (Burnaby Mountain Golf Club) emerged victorious at this week's 2026 Play Golf BC Assistants' Championship at The Dunes at Kamloops, finishing at 11-under par over two days of competition.

Kallis trailed Saratoga Beach Golf Course's Jordan Irwin following Round One, finishing at 66 (-6) on the day including three straight birdies to open his round. Irwin posted a 7-under 65 on Monday to assume the Round One lead.

The first three holes in Round Two posed a greater challenge to Kallis, as he bogeyed the first and third holes and birdied the second to fall another shot back. However, Kallis recovered with a stunning nine-hole stretch, from the seventh to the 15th holes, where he made five birdies and an eagle. On the drivable par-four 14th hole, both Kallis and Irwin sunk their eagle putts with Kallis reaching 11-under and Irwin 10-under. A birdie on the 15th gave Kallis a two-stroke lead at 12-under, but a bogey on the 17th led to a one-stroke cushion heading to the 18th tee.

With both Kallis and Irwin reaching the 18th green in regulation, pressure mounted on Irwin to sink his 30-footer for birdie. His putt rolled towards the hole and the crowd held their breath in anticipation as it trickled closer and closer to the cup. As it reached the cup, the ball snagged the edge, lipped out and refused to drop, settling less than a foot from the hole.

Kallis stepped up to his 20-footer, knowing he had two chances at par and the victory. He played the birdie putt conservatively, rolling it just short of the hole to set up a tap-in par and clinch the 2026 Assistants' Championship title. He takes home $5,000 for the win.

"Oh boy. It hasn't really sunk in yet, but it means a lot," said Kallis on Tuesday. "There's a lot of great players that play in these events, a lot of great friends and competitors. The names on this trophy are filled with legends, and to get one of these means a lot. I'm really proud of how I handled myself."

The victory is Kallis’ first in a PGA of BC championship and while the win marked a breakthrough moment, Kallis said the quality of his play was reflective of where his game has been trending.

"I don't want to say it was a surprise, because I feel like my game has been good this year. I just haven't been scoring, I've been making mistakes with wedges and too many three-putts, so I was able to clean a couple little things up this week and it came together. I was confident, but not necessarily expecting to play this way."

Irwin earned runner-up honours with his impressive 10-under finish, earning $2,700. James Swan (Olympic View Golf Club) finished in third place at 7-under to earn $1,900. Nicklaus Kennedy (Talking Rock Golf Course), Victor Choi (Capilano Golf & Country Club), and Will Barnett (Vancouver Golf Club) tied for fourth place at 6-under par, taking home $1,283.33 each.

There was an optional Round Two Skins Game, with Aodán Comerford (Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club) winning the only skin with his eagle on the par-five second hole. Comerford earned $1,400 for the skin.
