Vernon, British Columbia (PGA of BC) - Alec Hubert (Gorge Vale Golf Club), Sergej Dronov (Pacific Golf Academy), and Rob Tadey (Fairview Mountain Golf Club) each posted a 3-under 69 at Vernon Golf & Country Club to share the first-round lead at the 2026 Srixon/Cleveland Golf Club Professional Championship presented by Nike Golf and Mobilicab. The trio holds a two-shot advantage heading into the second and final round.
Hubert got under par early with consecutive birdies on the 2nd and 3rd holes, setting the tone for his opening round.
“I think the key to my round was a solid start. We all know the importance of the tee shot on #2. I hit a solid drive and gave myself a long iron approach which I hit into the throat of the green for a fairly straightforward up and down birdie," said Hubert. "I followed that up with a good 8-iron on 3 to about eight feet and made that to reach -2 early on. From there I managed to play solid golf and kept things in front of me.”
Hubert said the similarities between Vernon and Kamloops Golf & Country Club, where he previously served as General Manager, give him confidence as he prepares for the final round.
“The strategy for tomorrow doesn't really change. I think the golf course can be attacked several different ways. It plays very similar to Kamloops, so I have a level of comfort at Vernon. The greens are rolling great, so a huge shout out to the turf team!”
Dronov leaned on his putting to earn his share of the lead, making the most of his opportunities on Vernon's greens.
“The putter was definitely working. I didn't hit it as close, but my putter was behaving pretty nice. I made up my share of shots more than I probably should have.”
His short game also helped him navigate trouble late in the round, with a key recovery on the 17th keeping him on track.
“A moment that stands out was my par save on 17. I hit it way right, and then I hit a flop shot just past the flag to about 15 feet. I made that, so that kept the momentum going.”
Tadey overcame an opening bogey with three consecutive birdies, using a strong day on the greens to move into a share of the lead.
“I bogeyed 1, a tough start to be honest. But then I rang off three in a row, made a couple long putts, and kind of flagged it for the rest of the day. The greens were perfect, the golf course was great."
Dave Munn (Shuswap National) sits alone in fourth place at 1-under par after an opening 71.
Four competitors are tied for fifth place at even-par: Lindsay Bernakevitch (Victoria Golf Club), Padraic O'Rourke (Marine Drive Golf Club), Kevin Stinson (Cheam Mountain Golf Course), and Scott Shepherd (Princeton Golf Club).
