Kat Kennedy leads Women's Championship, Matt Daniel leads Seniors' Championship after first round

June 22, 2026

Pitt Meadows, BC (PGA of BC) - Round One of the 2026 Seniors' & Women's Championships presented by Honma Golf and Wolfe Jack Supply Co. is complete at Pitt Meadows Golf Club, as Kat Kennedy (McCleery Golf Course) takes a two-stroke lead in the Women's and Matt Daniel (Savage Creek Golf Club) takes a three-stroke lead in the Seniors'.

Kennedy, the 2021 PGA of BC Women's Champion, carded an even-par 72, building her lead with a steady front nine that featured birdies on the fourth, seventh and eighth holes. She made the turn at 1-under following a bogey on the ninth, then moved deeper into red figures with back-to-back birdies on the 11th and 12th. A double bogey on the 13th and bogey on the 17th brought her back to even par, but Kennedy closed with a par on 18 to finish two shots clear of second place.

"I was just trying to stick one shot at a time, pick good lines and hit quality shots. There were some putts that just dropped for me today," said Kennedy. "I think there's some decision-making changes tomorrow, in terms of picking the right clubs off the tee on certain holes. Expectation-wise, I'll keep it the same. One shot at a time and stick to my process. If the shot goes where I want then great, but if not, I'll go find it and do the best I can."

2024 PGA of BC Women's Champion Taylor Kim (Beach Grove Golf Club) sits in solo second after her 74 (+2) today. Two-time Women's Champion Christine Wong (Savage Creek Golf Club) is third at 4-over.

Matt Daniel, competing in his first PGA of BC Seniors' Championship, pulled ahead early in that championship with his scorching start.

"I got off to a good start. Birdied one, lipped out for birdie on two, birdied three and birdied four," said Daniel. "I had good vibes going and I just kind of played well the rest of the way. I got it to 5-under through 10 and then I bogeyed 12 and 13 out of nowhere, which was kind of surprising because I was really feeling in control of my game. I came back and made a nice birdie on 16, pars on 17 and 18 for 4-under."

Daniel, who recently became eligible for the PGA of BC Seniors' field and has qualified for the upcoming U.S. Senior Open, said his strategic approach this week is built on detailed preparation and discipline.

"As I get older, I start to prepare a little more. I'll make my gameplan tonight, and it will be the same as it always is: pretty aggressive, and whatever I feel is the best course of action for the golf course, not my position. I've been eating right, doing meditation, working out, practicing a little bit. All those things roll right into one another and make for a pretty good recipe."

Two-time PGA of BC Seniors' Champion Rob Anderson (Kelowna Golf & Country Club) and Trevor Van Hoof (Simon Fraser University) are tied for second place after rounds of 71 (-1).

Luke McKenzie (Ledgeview Golf Club), three-time Seniors' Champion Doug Morgan (Richmond Country Club), and 2024 Seniors' Champion Bryn Parry (Seymour Creek Golf Centre) are tied for fourth place at 1-over.

Jeff Palmer (Highland Pacific Golf) made an incredible hole-in-one on Pitt Meadows' par-3 16th, playing as the 7th hole in this week's championship. The PGA of BC wishes congratulations to Jeff on his fourth career ace!
