Morgan takes third career Seniors' title, Rampuri wins Women's Championship for her first professional victory

June 25, 2025

Victoria, BC (PGA of BC) - Doug Morgan secured his third career PGA of BC Seniors’ title and Jaya Rampuri earned her first career professional victory at this weeks Seniors’ & Women’s Championships presented by Honma Golf & Levelwear, which took place Monday and Tuesday at Cordova Bay Golf Course in Victoria.

Richmond Country Club’s Morgan fired a Round One 69 (-2), putting himself in pole position heading into the final round. Fraser Mulholland (Vancouver Golf Tour) sat one shot back on Morgan after a first-round 70, while Kendal Yonomoto (Savage Creek Golf Club) sat at even-par entering the final round. Defending champion Bryn Parry (Seymour Creek Golf Centre) also lurked as a top contender after his first-round 73 (+2).

Morgan’s final round began with a deflating bogey that saw his first swing of the day find the penalty area, forcing him to take a drop. On the par-3 6th, Morgan made another bogey. Meanwhile, Parry and Cheam Mountain Golf Course’s Chad McAdie made a charge to the top of the leaderboard. Through nine holes, all three competitors were tied at 1-under.

Navigating the sloping, subtle greens at Cordova Bay with precision and deft touch, Morgan quickly pulled ahead with birdies on 10 and 12. While Morgan’s competitors aggressively pursued his lead, he remained calm and collected as he closed with six straight pars to finish the tournament at 3-under and seal the win.

“I started off hitting it into the penalty area on 1. I had to take a drop and made bogey right out of the hopper. I hit a decent shot on 6, the uphill par-3, but three-whacked from there. I thought, ‘Uh oh, here we go.’ I got it back with a birdie on 7, made one from off the back of the fringe on 10, and birdied 12 for the second day in a row,” said Morgan.

“My wife came out and joined me on 10, she asked about the leaderboard. I said, ‘I don’t want to know.’ I’m going to do my thing, play my game and let the chips fall where they fall.”

Parry earned runner-up honours in the Seniors’ Championship after a stellar Round Two 68 (-3) to finish the tournament at 1-under. McAdie (E) rounded out the podium in third place, while Yonomoto (+1) finished fourth. Jeff Buder (University Golf Club) and Mulholland tied for fifth at 4-over par.

The Women’s Championship saw Riverway Golf Course’s Rampuri secure not only her first career professional victory, but also a win in her first ever PGA of BC event.

A first-round 72 (+1) helped Rampuri enter the final round with a one-stroke lead over two-time Women’s champion Christine Wong and a two-stroke cushion over Kyla Inaba (Predator Ridge Golf Resort) and Jessica Claggett (Two Eagles Golf Course & Academy). Rampuri’s first round included an eagle on the par-5 18th.

Early in Round Two, Wong’s birdie on the 2nd gave her a share of the lead, but Rampuri answered with a birdie of her own on the 4th. Making the turn with a one-stroke lead, Rampuri closed her tournament with birdies on 14 and 18 to play the final nine at 2-under par and win by three strokes.

“I’m super thrilled to get the win in my first PGA of BC tournament, and that was my first pro win as well. It was a pretty special one for me,” said Rampuri.

“I had had a pretty good start to my season, but my last couple weeks were tough ones. I think it was more of a mental thing than a physical or technical. I actually sat down with a mentor last week and they gave me some new perspectives coming into the week. I knew my skill was there, mentally I was able to pull through and get everything to align this week.”

Wong finished as runner-up, ending her tournament at 3-over par. Inaba earned third place at 5-over. Claggett and Diana McDonald (University Golf Club) tied for a share of fourth place.
