PGA of BC, CMHA BC and Brady Stead introduce the 2025 Teach-a-thon for mental health

PGA of BC, CMHA BC and Brady Stead introduce the 2025 Teach-a-thon for mental health

August 12, 2025

Richmond, BC (PGA of BC) - The PGA of BC, the Canadian Mental Health Association British Columbia, and Ledgeview Golf Club professional Brady Stead are thrilled to introduce the 2025 Teach-a-thon for Mental Health, an expansion of Brady’s Steady Golf Teach-a-thon for Mental Health.

While Brady was competing in Europe in 2018 with hopes of reaching the European Tour, his cousin died by suicide. In support of mental health initiatives during this time, Brady started wearing a green ribbon on his hat to raise awareness about mental illness and mental health challenges. Since this day, he has also lost friends and colleagues who struggled with mental health challenges.

In 2023, Brady launched the Steady Golf Teach-a-thon for Mental Health. This initiative saw Brady teach lessons from dawn to dusk, with 100% of lessons revenue and donations going to the Canadian Mental Health Association. In just two years, he raised $9,870 to provide help and hope to those struggling with mental illness.

New for 2025, all PGA of BC professionals can join the PGA of BC’s Teach-a-thon for Mental Health and change the lives of people in their local community living with mental health challenges!

The expanded program builds on Brady’s original vision, allowing PGA of BC Professionals across the province to host their own Teach-a-thon events in support of CMHA. For Brady, seeing the initiative embraced by his peers is both humbling and motivating, as it transforms a personal cause into a collective effort with the potential for far greater reach and impact.

"It's a very rewarding feeling seeing the Teach-a-thon for Mental Health morph into a province-wide initiative. It all stems from my fellow Professionals reaching out wanting to get involved. I couldn't be more thankful for their encouragement and desire to take action. The PGA of BC and CMHA staff have been instrumental in lifting this off the ground. Hopefully, this is the beginning of something that will make a large and lasting impact in our province," said Brady.

"As PGA of BC Professionals, we can use our platforms to break the stigma around mental health and spark real change in our communities. Whether it’s through fundraising, hosting events or simply being someone who listens, golf can be a place for healing. We as Professionals are in a position to lead that charge."

Between August 22 and September 30, 2025, we are asking pros to donate some of their time, with all proceeds from golf lesson fees and member donations directed to your local Canadian Mental Health Association Branch. Whether you're able to teach from dawn to dusk, or offer one hour-long lesson, any and all contributions are greatly appreciated!

Every dollar raised for your local community, will stay in your local community, and provide vital support to individuals facing mental health challenges.

A message from Antonia Kalmacoff Jennings, Senior Director, Development and Communications, CMHA BC:

"We are so grateful for this partnership with the PGA of BC, which connects our network of CMHAs with caring golf professionals to champion mental health together. This initiative really highlights the power of community to drive change.

Every CMHA branch has its own unique strengths, priorities, and community needs—so we’re excited to share that funds raised through this year’s Teach-a-thon will support mental health programs that are most needed in each participating community. Some examples of community services could include investing in prevention and early intervention programs for youth, expanding access to community-based crisis supports, strengthening peer-led recovery services for people living with mental health or substance use challenges, or addressing fundamental well-being needs like food security.

At the provincial level, funds raised for CMHA BC Division will help us deliver province-wide initiatives. They’ll also support our policy and advocacy work, as we push for systemic changes to make mental health care more accessible, inclusive, and responsive. And where needs are greatest, we’ll ensure resources go to where they can make the most impact.

Your generosity as an individual makes a tremendous difference in advancing mental health at the local community and provincial levels, so that no one has to struggle alone. Thank you for giving your time and expertise to help create this network of support."
