Point Grey's Zibrik and Foxcroft take record-setting Tournament of Champions playoff victory

Point Grey's Zibrik and Foxcroft take record-setting Tournament of Champions playoff victory

May 26, 2026

Kelowna, BC (PGA of BC) - Point Grey Golf & Country Club Director of Golf Dave Zibrik and Men's Club Champion Alex Foxcroft emerged triumphant from a sudden-victory playoff at the PING Canada Tournament of Champions presented by KAILANI Outdoors yesterday at Black Mountain Golf Club. The win takes Point Grey Golf & Country Club to a record-setting five victories in the event. Zibrik's fourth victory in the event is also the most all-time by any one individual.

Unpredictable winds posed a challenge for competing professionals and amateur club champions as they navigated the constantly changing weather. In spite of the obstacle, three teams tied at 65 (-6) after eighteen holes: Zibrik and Foxcroft; Brooks Jones and Ryan Vest (Vernon Golf & Country Club); and Doug Morgan and Gavin Ciulla (Richmond Country Club).

The duos faced off in a sudden-victory alternate-shot playoff on Black Mountain's par-5 18th hole. All three teams performed with precision and poise to set up birdie putts. Point Grey's Foxcroft stepped up first, draining the birdie putt to guarantee advancement. Richmond's Morgan faced a tricky downhill, sliding putt, which he left just outside to miss birdie. Vernon's Jones tapped in for a four to force a trip back to the 18th tee with Point Grey.

On the repeat playoff hole, Jones' tee shot sailed left, entering the penalty area. Forced to take a drop, Vest hit driver from the rough and sailed the ball short of the green. However, Point Grey reached the green in two for an eagle opportunity while Vernon would be chipping for birdie. Vernon's chip rolled past the hole to set up a lengthy par putt, and after Point Grey's putt for eagle settled at a gimme distance, Vernon conceded.

The victory marks Point Grey's fifth win all-time in the Tournament of Champions, breaking a tie with Victoria Golf Club, and their fifth title in just six years. Zibrik earned his fourth win, passing Point Grey's Jeff Dagg and Victoria Golf Club's Lindsay Bernakevitch and Craig Doell for the most wins by an individual.

"I think the record is a testament to the club and how many great players we have," said Zibrik. "Obviously, Alex is a great player, and we have so many great men's, women's and junior players. It really speaks volumes to the quality of golf that's being played at Point Grey. The club should be really proud of what they've built."

Zibrik said it was the first event that him and Foxcroft competed in as a team. Despite their inexperience as partners, the duo found the chemistry they needed for victory.

"I could say it was ham-and-egging, but the first eleven holes would have been all ham, all Alex. For the back nine, we ebbed and flowed and both contributed a few birdies and a couple big par putts that were important," said Zibrik.

Foxcroft said that recalling his experience winning the 2025 Point Grey club championship helped him stay grounded and focused throughout the playoff, the first playoff of his competitive golf career.

"In our club championship last year, we had a lot of people watching and I felt those nerves that you might feel in a playoff. That was the most similar experience I've had to the playoff experience," said Foxcroft.

"Luckily, Dave was the one who hit driver on the first hole. It was nice to gather my thoughts and have a little extra time. In the cart on the way to the 18th hole, we were kind of just vibing, chatting it up. I was trying to stay confident, competitive and in the moment."

Okanagan Golf Club and Royal Colwood Golf Club join Point Grey, Vernon and Richmond in the top-five. Okanagan's Lee Ranger and Kevin Pederson and Royal Colwood's Gord Scutt and Nolan Thoroughgood finished at 5-under par.
