Victoria, BC (PGA of BC) - The PGA of BC Srixon/Cleveland Golf Club Professional Championship presented by Nike Golf and Mobilicab returns to Vancouver Island as club professionals from across BC will challenge for the Dick Munn Memorial Trophy at Victoria Golf Club on September 22-23.

As the oldest golf course in Canada still located on its original site, Victoria Golf Club and its rich history will provide a prestigious setting for next week’s event. Despite its short distance, the course presents a multitude of challenges. A.V. Macan’s strategic layout demands pinpoint shot accuracy and the small, undulating greens require precise touch. The windy seaside conditions present an additional hurdle to overcome.

Lindsay Bernakevitch is the Director of Golf at Victoria Golf Club. He won the Club Professional Championship in 2015 and 2018 and will be teeing it up in this year’s event.

“We have a long tradition of supporting golf in BC and Canada. We are one of the founding clubs of Golf Canada. There are a couple things that make it special. Our members are proud of the golf course and like to share it with the world. Our greens crew are excited that they have the course in unbelievable shape. Our golf operations team is excited to host and support a great event as well,” said Bernakevitch.

“The course isn’t the longest course, but it’s a tricky course strategically. The greens and the wind defend the course well. The scores are never as low as you think they’re going to be.”

Last year at Nanaimo Golf Club, Eric Wang (Victoria Academy of Golf) sealed the Club Professional Championship title with a commanding six-shot victory. Wang returns to defend his title next week.

“Being from Victoria, living in Oak Bay, the course is just down the street. I know the course quite well. You have to play the elements there, it gets pretty windy off the Juan de Fuca Strait,” said Wang. “Anytime you can compete, it’s a good experience and I’m always looking forward to the challenge. Overall, I’m going to treat the event the same, but it does feel good coming back as defending champion.”

Joining Wang and Bernakevitch among the favourites are several competitors in recent form and with a history of success: three-time PGA of BC Male Player of the Year Kevin Stinson (Cheam Mountain Golf Course), 2024 Club Professional Championship runner-up Sergej Dronov (Pacific Golf Academy), two-time Club Professional Champion Dave Zibrik (Point Grey Golf & Country Club), two-time Club Professional Champion Mark Kitts (Shadow Ridge Golf Club), and three-time Women’s Champion Ashley Zibrik (Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club). Zibrik’s third Women’s Championship title came at Victoria Golf Club.

The PGA of BC is proud to partner with Title Sponsor Srixon/Cleveland Golf, whose support plays a key role in delivering a memorable championship experience. Special thanks to Sales Representatives Jon Kadin and Mark Lindsay of Mint Green Group for representing both Srixon/Cleveland Golf and Nike Golf, which also joins us as a Presenting Sponsor.

We are also pleased to recognize Mobilicab as a Presenting Sponsor and thank Sales Representative Kevin Orton for his efforts in supporting this event.

Additional thanks go to Supporting Sponsors FG Club Solutions and Vegas Baby and Founder Scott Kolb for their contributions to the championship.

Finally, our deepest gratitude to Bernakevitch and the entire Victoria Golf Club team, whose preparation and hospitality have been essential in bringing this event to life.
