Preview: 2026 Axis Insurance PGA of BC Championship presented by GOLFTEC, Levelwear, and Replay Golf Supplies

The Competition

The Axis Insurance PGA of BC Championship presented by GOLFTEC, Levelwear, and Replay Golf Supplies is open to all Golf Professionals within the Association and contested every August. The 2026 Championship takes place August 24-25 at Kamloops Golf & Country Club.

The tournament debuted in 1970, marking the beginning of the Association's modern era. The champion earns a place on the William Thompson Trophy, named in honour of the longtime volunteer secretary to the PGA of BC.

Scott Minni and Bryn Parry share the record for most PGA of BC Championship titles with four victories each.

Recent history, however, has been defined by parity. The last 10 editions of the Championship have produced 10 different winners, with no player capturing the William Thompson Trophy more than once during that span. A similar stretch occurred from 1998 through 2007, when 10 consecutive editions also produced 10 different champions.

Defending champion Brycen Ko (Musqueam Golf & Learning Academy) enters this year's event after defeating Dave Zibrik (Point Grey Golf & Country Club) in a sudden-victory playoff at Gorge Vale Golf Club in 2025.

"Winning the PGA of BC Championship definitely gave me a lot of confidence and showed me that I can perform at my best when the pressure is on. It’s motivated me to keep working on my game, trust my preparation, and stay focused on the process when I’m in tournaments. Winning it once was a huge accomplishment, but being able to come back and defend the title would be pretty special. I know it won’t be easy, but I’m excited for the challenge."

The Course

Kamloops Golf & Country Club is one of the oldest golf clubs in the province, with roots dating back to 1914.

The par-72 championship course stretches to approximately 6,700 yards and features a traditional parkland layout framed by mature trees. Its contoured greens and tree-lined fairways place a premium on positioning and approach play, providing a strategic test for the field at the PGA of BC's premier individual championship.

Kamloops Golf & Country Club hosted the 2016 and 2021 PGA of BC Assistants' Championship, and the 2016 and 2021 PGA of BC Seniors' Championship. This will be the club's first hosting of the PGA of BC Championship.

Our entire team is excited for the opportunity to showcase the course and welcome some of the province’s top golf professionals. Over the years, we’ve developed a reputation among Interior PGA professionals for having some of the fastest greens in the region, and our turf team takes great pride in that distinction. We hope the players leave impressed not only by the quality of our greens, but also by the overall condition of our tees and fairways. Our staff has been working diligently to ensure the club is presented at its very best and stands out as a premier championship venue.

The greens will likely be the biggest factor in determining the champion. We recently hosted our annual Sunshine Amateur, and the greens were running close to 14 on the Stimpmeter. Players with exceptional touch on and around the greens, along with the ability to manage speed and read subtle breaks, will have a distinct advantage. Ultimately, I expect the player who putts well and stays patient throughout the week to be the one lifting the trophy."

Regional Teams

The 2026 PGA of BC Championship will include a Regional Team competition. Four representatives from each unique region - Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island, Interior & Kootenays/North - will compose the teams. The format for this competition will count the three best scores from each team as an aggregate score. Regional teams were determined by the corresponding regional tour's 2026 Order of Merit standings as of August 1.
