Preview: 2026 Play Golf BC Assistants' Championship
June 5, 2026
Kamloops, BC (PGA of BC) -
The Competition
The Play Golf BC Assistants' Championship is open to all PGA of BC Apprentice, Teaching, and Class "A" Professionals in good standing who are not classified as Head, Executive, or Head Teaching Professionals.
The Assistants' Championship is the Association's longest-running competition, debuting in 1948 as the City Assistant Professionals' Tournament. The event was considered a provincial championship by 1951, when 36 holes were played in a single day.
Bryn Parry (Seymour Creek Golf Centre) has won the event a record five times, with his first title coming in 2000 and the most recent in 2017. Gerry Chatelain (Life Professional) and Steven Lecuyer (Seymour Creek Golf Centre) are the only players to win three consecutive titles; Chatelain collecting his trio of Assistants' Championships between 1972 and 1974, and Lecuyer winning his from 2023 through 2025.
Steven Lecuyer, 3x Defending Assistants' Champion, Seymour Creek Golf Centre:
"It was a great accomplishment and I'm very grateful for the opportunity to be able to win three championships in a row. It was a pleasure to meet Gerry in person and have him congratulate me."
The Course
The Dunes at Kamloops is known for its distinctive layout carved through natural sand dunes and native fescue. Designed by Canadian architect Graham Cooke, the course offers a links-style feel uncommon in British Columbia’s interior, with undulating greens and firm playing surfaces that present a strong test for players competing in the championship.
Doug Wilkinson, Director of Golf, The Dunes at Kamloops:
"Strategically, The Dunes will deliver some surprises, so be prepared, know where the opportunities are and have a strategy that plays to your strengths. Be patient and stay in the moment. Commit. Accept. Move on."

Thank You
The PGA of BC extends its appreciation to Play Golf BC and Bruce Vermee for their sponsorship of the Assistants' Championship. The Association is excited to welcome Play Golf BC as a new sponsor and enjoy Bruce's warm presence at The Dunes next week.
Bruce Vermee, Play Golf BC:
"Play Golf BC is thrilled to be the Title Sponsor of the PGA of BC Assistants' Championship for the next three years, as it aligns directly with Play Golf BC’s commitment to developing and supporting our young professionals – today and tomorrow’s golf leaders – on both competitive and career paths.
Play Golf BC is owned and operated by PGA of Canada Professionals who rose through the Assistants ranks to become Class A Head Professionals. Some of the best and most enjoyable times of being an Assistant Professional were at the Assistants' Championships, with some amazing golf but also forging relationships that still exist today. I can’t wait to watch all these professionals experience the Championship at The Dunes next week."
The PGA of BC would also like to thank Head Professional Bill Bilton Jr., Director of Golf Doug Wilkinson, and the entire Dunes at Kamloops team for their preparation and efforts in advance of the championship.
