Seymour Creek Golf Centre leads Pro-Assistant Championship after Round One

Seymour Creek Golf Centre leads Pro-Assistant Championship after Round One

July 7, 2025

Vernon, BC (PGA of BC) - James Legault and Steven Lecuyer, representing Seymour Creek Golf Centre, took a three-stroke lead heading into the final round of the 2025 G&G Brands and Callaway Golf Pro-Assistant Championship at The Rise Resort in Vernon. The pair fired a 14-under 58 in the two-pro best-ball competition today, including a 59 from Lecuyer on his own ball.

The team enjoyed a spectacular round that saw them make ten birdies and two eagles, avoiding a single blemish in the form of bogeys. Lecuyer, who was playing The Rise Resort for the first time, powered the duo throughout the majority of the round. At 12-under through 16 holes, Lecuyer eagled the first to jump to 14-under par on his own ball. On the duo’s final hole, Lecuyer made his first and only bogey of the round, while Legault made par to keep their team score at 14-under.

Legault pointed to Lecuyer’s short game as the key to their performance today.

“It started really well. We birdied one, birdied two. And he just started making putts,” said Legault. “He always hits the golf ball well, but the putting was insane. It just kept going all day long.”

Lecuyer said his putt for eagle on the first hole, their 17th of the day, was the highlight of the round.

“There was a putt I hit on 1 that I couldn’t believe went in. Some would say it was a miracle. We wanted a miracle, and I think we got it. A very strange putt, it shouldn’t have gone in but it did,” said Lecuyer.

“I think the par on 2 was more of a highlight,” added Legault, whose par on their 18th hole secured the 14-under 58.

When asked what his mindset and strategy will be for tomorrow’s 2-pro scramble, Lecuyer said he’ll lean on his partner to maintain and protect their lead.

“I’m gonna let James take over. I kind of took all the glory today, so tomorrow I’m releasing the reins and letting him go,” said Lecuyer.

“I have four balls left, but I guess I’ll let it loose,” said Legault.

Three strokes back and sitting in second place, three-time Pro-Assistant champions Brian McDonald and Rob Tadey (Fairview Mountain Golf Club) fired an 11-under 61 today with 11 birdies.

Three teams are tied for third place at 9-under: Sergej Dronov and Mewail Kidane (Pacific Golf Academy), Adam Blair and Myles Johnson (Vernon Golf & Country Club), and Ryan Stugis and Finlay Young (Groove4Golf).

The PGA of BC extends our gratitude to our dedicated and generous title sponsors, G&G Brands and Callaway Golf. The Association’s championships would not be possible without the incredible patronage of our sponsors.

The Association also thanks Lovely Day Beverage Co. for providing complimentary Hard T iced teas to all competitors today.

Finally, we extend our appreciation to Director of Operations Chad Scott, Head Professional Austin Bosquet, and the entire Rise Resort team for their world-class hospitality.

Round Two will commence at 8:00am tomorrow morning in a shotgun start.
