Stinson shoots course-record 62 to lead the 2026 Axis Insurance PGA of BC Championship presented by GOLFTEC, Levelwear, and Replay Golf Supplies

Kamloops, British Columbia (PGA of BC) - Kevin Stinson (Cheam Mountain Golf Course) fired a spectacular course-record 10-under 62 at Kamloops Golf & Country Club to take a six-shot lead into the second and final round of the 2026 Axis Insurance PGA of BC Championship presented by GOLFTEC, Levelwear, and Replay Golf Supplies.
Stinson opened his round with a birdie and quickly followed up with an eagle on the par-5 2nd to reach 3-under through two holes. Additional birdies on the 5th and 6th holes brought him to 5-under after six holes to take a lead that he wouldn't relinquish for the remainder of the day.
Stinson added birdies on the 12th and 14th holes to reach 7-under, but he was far from satisfied. He closed the day with three straight birdies, with his final putt of the round clinching the new Kamloops Golf & Country Club course record.
His 62 also ties the PGA of BC Championship single-round scoring record, per available records. In 2007, Myles Johnson (Vernon Golf & Country Club) and Kendal Yonomoto (Savage Creek Golf Club) both posted 62 on the same day at Rivershore Golf Links.
"When you play a course in this condition, it makes it a little bit easier because it's just perfect. Hats off to the crew here," said Stinson.
Stinson took advantage of the pristine conditions with an aggressive approach off the tee, putting himself in position to attack Kamloops' greens throughout the round.
"This course lets you hit a lot of drivers, so I was trying to hit it as far as possible and get lots of wedges in."
Despite carrying a six-shot lead into the final round, Stinson isn't planning to change his approach as he looks to close out the championship tomorrow.
"It's usually not easy two days in a row, so I'll just try to execute. Try to pick my lines, make a decision, good club choices. Add them up at the end and see how it all falls."
Three competitors are tied for second place at 4-under par: Dave Zibrik (Point Grey Golf & Country Club), Justin Towill (Harvest Golf Club), and Aidan Goodfellow (Nanaimo Golf Club).
Five competitors are tied for fifth place at 3-under par: Alex Webber (Musqueam Golf & Learning Academy), Cory Renfrew (University of British Columbia), Luke Bogdan (Ace Performance Centre), Jordan Irwin (Saratoga Beach Golf Course), and Ryan Kao (McCleery Golf Course).

Regional Team Competition
The PGA of BC held a concurrent Regional Team Competition in Round One, with four representatives from unique regions of the province forming the teams. The format for this competition counted the three best scores from each team as an aggregate score. Regional teams were determined by the corresponding regional tour's 2026 Order of Merit standings as of August 1.
Team Lower Mainland took the victory by six shots over runner-up Team Vancouver Island with a combined team score of 15-under. Congratulations to Kevin Stinson, Luke Bogdan, Khan Lee, and John Shin!
