JEFF PALMER LEADS 2014 PDP

The PGA of BC launched a successful Professional Development Program (PDP) in 2013 which served as a measurable tool to recognize members of the Association who showed a tremendous contribution to the Association, the industry, and mostly importantly, themselves.

Congratulations once again to 2013 Champion Dave Zibrik of Capilano Golf & Country Club, who earned a total of 102 points throughout the year and took home the $2,000 first place prize. Special recognition also goes to Matthew Palsenbarg (Northview Golf & Country Club), James Presnail (Gleneagles Golf Course), Derek Thornley (The Golf Institute at Fraserview), Jesse Crowe (Salmon Arm Golf Club) and Rob Anderson (Kelowna Golf & Country Club), who all finished in the top six and received a piece of the $6,000 total purse.

Over the course of the last few months, the PGA of BC Administration office, with the support of the Board of Directors and Education Committee, have carefully reviewed feedback and made amendments to the program's structure. It is with great excitement that I inform the membership that the program will see growth in 2014. Notable changes include additional avenues to earn points, flexibility in various categories, deeper payouts and an increase to the overall purse.

Some specific highlights include:

  • Recognition of Golf-related volunteer opportunities
  • Education Certification Bonuses
  • Increase to Association Volunteer Opportunities
  • Addition of Canada Cup to point-eligible events
  • Change in end-date to November 30th
  • Amendment & Expansion to Payout schedule
  • Recognition to 2013's Top 100

The first update of 2014 shows Jeff Palmer (Olympic View Golf Club) taking the early lead in a crowded leaderboard. Palmer earned points through his contributions of presenting at the Education Series, participation at the Spring Education Seminar, and volunteerism in the PGA of BC Learning Centre at the Vancouver Golf & Travel Show.

Many members have already taken the initiative to submit their points for 2014. We encourage all members to take the time to familiarize themselves with the program as I am confident that the majority of members have already earned points in areas they have not yet realized.

For additional information, including details of changes, schedule of points, extracurricular points submission form and full listing of the 2014 Order of Merit standings, please visit the PGA of BC Professional Development Program website at www.pgabc.org/pdp.

In closing, the PGA of BC Administration welcomes any feedback on the program to continually make improvements throughout the year. Should you have any questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact myself or any of the PGA of BC Administration team at your convenience.
